If you’re here in Phuket or travelling here soon, the chances are you’ll be heading to Phi Phi island, also known as Koh Phi Phi. This is most probably one of the most famous islands and travel destinations in the whole of Thailand. Since the film ‘The Beach’ was filmed on the stunning Maya Bay, this island has become the must-visit place whilst in Phuket.
But more often than not it’s a fleeting visit, no more than 24 hours on the island until it’s time to head back to Phuket, so we’re spilling the beans on all the best bits of Koh Phi Phi so that you can have one serious 24 hours to remember.
Once you depart from the boat and land on Phi Phi soil, it can be overwhelming. Often the island is heaving with tourists, so be careful not to get bombarded with luggage bags or trampled on as you depart.
The first place you obviously want to hit up is the beach! Now there are actually several beaches on this small island, all beautiful and unique in their own way. Long beach is the main beach, the most common one and largest one. If you’re looking to party and make friends, this beach is for you. However if you prefer something a little more secluded, we prefer Nui beach off the west coast of Phi Phi. It’s quiet, secluded, untouched, surrounded by lush green nature and is an absolute tropical paradise.
Chances are you’re going to get hungry after hours of tanning, so we recommend heading down the side streets of Phi Phi Don and explore all the fantastic food on offer. Places like Unni’s is the perfect place for vegan buddha bowls, smoothies and all things healthy!
Now if you’re a party goer, this place is going to be your heaven. The streets come alive at night, busting with backpackers, fish bowls and loud music. If you’re not into the party scene, you’re unlikely to get much sleep as everything is in such close proximity to each other, so it’s hard to escape the noise. There are pool parties, beach parties and bars, all open until the early hours of the morning, so you can keep going for hours on end!
