Now we know this may sound like a tough one. There are just so many incredible cities and islands in Thailand to choose from, it’s hard to pick just one. Each city offers its own uniqueness and character and is suited to different people. But if we had to choose a city, for us it’s all about Chiang Mai.
For anyone that’s every visited Chiang Mai before, they’ll sure agree that it takes your breath away. It’s a city that makes you feel at home the minute you arrive. It’s a place with so much character, fun, opportunity and experiences.
The layout of Chiang Mai is split between the old town and the new town. The old town is a square in the middle of the city, whilst the new town is built around it outside of the square. This in itself offers a huge contrast, with so much history and culture to learn about.
Then it’s all about the activities. We’re talking white water rafting, visiting the tigers and their cubs, elephant sanctuaries, market hopping and temple visits. These activities add so much activity to the city and bring it to life. They’re also a huge pull for the tourists which helps to boost the local Chiang Mai economy.
Although Chiang Mai may have a big tourist, expat and digital nomad community residing in Chiang Mai, there is still a lot of authentic culture and local Thai people living there today. That’s why we love it! We get to soak up the old heritage and authenticity, whilst still being able to maintain our modern lifestyle in modern coffee shops and cafes.
There really is something for everyone and we couldn’t recommend it more! The only thing we miss when we visit is the beach, that’s why Phuket still remains our favourite island!
